Ares Plumbing & HVAC installs and services water softeners, reverse osmosis drinking water systems and whole-home filters across the Wasatch Front. Most Utah water is hard to very hard, which leaves scale in water heaters, tankless units, fixtures and appliances. A correctly sized softener is the fix for scale, and a reverse osmosis system handles drinking water taste.

What is different in Utah
Hardness is measured in grains per gallon or milligrams per liter. Anything over 180 mg/L (about 10.5 grains) is classed as very hard, and many Utah systems report readings in the hard to very hard range. Your provider’s annual water quality report lists the number.
Water Softeners & Filtration cost
Typical range: $1,500–$3,500 for a softener installed; $400–$900 for reverse osmosis. This is an estimate for typical Wasatch Front homes. Your written quote is the actual price. 0% financing options are available, subject to credit approval.
Repair and diagnostic visits start with a $79 service call fee, which is credited toward the repair when you go ahead. Quotes on replacements and installs are free.

Frequently asked questions
Is softened water safe to drink?
Yes for most people. Softening adds a small amount of sodium. If that is a concern, we can leave the kitchen cold line unsoftened or add a reverse osmosis system.
What size water softener do I need?
Size depends on your water hardness and how much water your household uses. We test the water and calculate it rather than guessing by house size.
How do I find out how hard my water is?
Your water provider publishes hardness in its annual water quality report, and we can test a sample at your home.
