Ares Plumbing & HVAC installs, descales and repairs tankless water heaters across the Wasatch Front. A tankless unit heats water on demand, so it does not run out, and it typically lasts around 20 years with maintenance. In Utah it needs two things to work well: correct sizing for cold winter inlet water, and protection from hard-water scale.

Signs you need it
- You run out of hot water with a tank
- Your tank is due for replacement and you want the space back
- An existing tankless unit shows error codes or fluctuating temperature
- Hot water flow has dropped (often scale in the heat exchanger)
What we do
- Size the unit for your fixtures and for winter groundwater temperature
- Upgrade the gas line and venting when the unit requires it
- Install isolation valves so the unit can be descaled
- Descale and service existing units
What is different in Utah
Tankless units burn far more gas per hour than a tank, so many Utah homes need a larger gas line. Output also drops with altitude, which matters on the benches and in Summit County. With hard water, plan on a softener or a yearly descale.

Frequently asked questions
Is a tankless water heater worth it in Utah?
It is worth it if you run out of hot water, want a longer-lasting unit, or need the floor space. It costs more up front than a tank, and it needs descaling in hard water. If your tank meets your needs, a tank replacement is the lower-cost choice.
Do I need a water softener with a tankless heater?
We strongly recommend one in most Utah homes. Scale coats the heat exchanger, cuts flow and efficiency, and shortens the unit’s life. Without a softener, plan on descaling at least once a year.
Will a tankless unit keep up in winter?
Yes, if it is sized for winter. Incoming water is much colder in January than July, so the unit has to raise the temperature further. We size for the winter number.
