Homes in Magna: what we see

Magna started as a copper mining and smelter town in the early 1900s. It has a historic Main Street core with older homes and newer subdivisions built around it.

The older core often has galvanized pipe and clay sewer lines, while newer subdivisions mostly need water heater and HVAC replacements as builder-grade equipment ages.

Salt Lake County climate and water

The Salt Lake Valley floor sits around 4,300 feet, with bench neighborhoods higher. Summers are hot and dry, winters are cold, and winter inversions trap fine particulate pollution in the valley for days at a time. Summer brings ozone and wildfire smoke. Good filtration matters here in both seasons.

Salt Lake County water is generally hard to very hard, and it varies by provider and by season depending on whether your water comes from mountain streams or wells. Your provider’s annual water quality report lists the hardness for your system. More in our guide: how hard is Utah water.

Permits in Magna

Water heater, furnace, air conditioner, gas line and sewer work in Magna generally requires a permit from the Greater Salt Lake Municipal Services District (MSD), which handles building permits for Magna. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of the job.
